JESSUP MOOT COURT CHARLES UNIVERSITY TEAM’S selection procedure
The Jessup is the world’s largest international law moot court competition focusing on public international law. It simulates proceedings in front of the International Court of Justice.
The 2024 Charles University team won the European Friendly Rounds of the Jessup.
Apply to the new team by participating in the course:
The 2025 Charles University team will be selected from participants of course HV4319 Jessup – preparation.
The course will take place from June till September 2024. During it, online meetings will be held once per 2-3 weeks dealing with the issues of the 2025 Jessup problem (see below), mooting skills as well as general issues of international law.
All participants of the course (both those selected for the team as well as all others) will gain 4 credits upon completion of the course in September. Participants will be required to submit short written submission and defend it in a moot court in September.
The international rounds of the Jessup will take place from March 29-April 5, 2025, in Washington D.C. Prior to it, the European Friendly rounds or national rounds will take place. The Charles University team will be preparing for participation since September 2024.
The team will submit two written submissions (memorials) for the Applicant and for the Respondent and will also defend their position in front of panels of judges.
Jessup 2025 topics:
(1) the rights and obligations of other members of the international community when two persons claim to be the legitimate president of a state;
(2) invocation of immunity for government officials accused of grave violations of human rights;
(3) the legal consequences of receding coastlines for the maritime zones of coastal states; and
(4) the interpretation of the compromissory clause in a treaty creating a regional organization.
Requirements:
a) Excellent English language skills,
b) Course of Public International Law passed,
c) Team spirit and dedication to study in the field of international law.
