Department of Legal Theory and Legal Doctrines
The Department of Legal Theory and Legal Doctrines is one the most important departments of the Faculty of Law of Charles University. In the master’s programme it provides for example the courses Theory of Law I and II, where students are introduced to legal terminology, key legal relationships and institutions, and the basics of legal thought and reasoning. In terms of the doctoral programme of study, the Department is the guarantor of the subject General Basics of Jurisprudence for all doctoral students and the programme Theory, Philosophy, and Sociology of Law.
It is also engaged in research and publishing activities, as the Department carries out long-term and successful grant projects of the Czech Science Foundation (GAČR), and its members participate in the Q 04 Progress university programme. The Department organises various international scientific conferences, colloquia, and workshops, often in collaboration with the Czech Association for Philosophy of Law and Social Philosophy (IVR).
