Great success in Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot!
Great success in Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot!
After more then a year of preparations students Martin Horák, Anna Kalašnikovová, Adéla Martínková, Lucie Tuzová, Matouš Valášek and Karolína Větrovská, Charles University Law Faculty’s student team, successfully participated in 27th Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot ("Vis Moot"), the biggest international civil law moot court.
Our team was one of the best 64 teams chosen for the Vis Moot final from a total of 249 teams at the beginning of the competition. As a result of winning against National Academy of Legal Studies and Research (NALSAR) and Gujarat National Law University in the final our team won a position within TOP 16 teams of Vis Moot. It’s the biggest success that no other Czech university team has ever achieved. Our student team stands beside students from McGill University, Bucerius Law School, New York University, University of Pittsburgh and Chinese University of Hong Kong. In addition, during preparations our team had to handle unprecedented circumstances due to the new conditions. All rounds were changed to be online instead of presentational so our team had to adapt.
Alongside the great success of our team, two members Anna Kalašniková and Lucie Tuzová won honorable mentions in Martin Domke Award for their excellent oral presentation. In the past this award has been granted only to a few Czech students and no team has ever received this award for two team members at the same time. Both of our students were awarded in competition with hundreds of other team members.
This success could never be achieved without help of their coaches Bára Bečvářová, Teodora Drašković and Kateřina Kratochvílová and help of doc. Vladimír Balaš, JUDr. Petr Bříza and support from Business Law and International Trade Law Department. Charles University Faculty of Law and law firms Dentons Europe CS LLP and Clifford Chance Prague LLP provided financial help for our team participation in Vis Moot. Besides the aforenamed we would like to thank to all supporters from the wide Vis Moot community that helped our team with written submissions or attended as arbitrators in mock moots.
Congratulations!
